NFL and NBA and NHL odds recap for Monday, November 2, 2026: what the lines got right and wrong

The Chicago Bears closed as underdogs on Monday Night Football and won 34-17 over the Seattle Seahawks. Before kickoff, DraftKings' closing moneyline gave Chicago a 40.0% chance to win. The moneyline is a straight bet on who wins, with no points involved, and the Bears paid +140, meaning a $100 bet returned $140 in profit. It was also a day for underdogs across the board. Five NBA underdogs and three NHL underdogs won outright.

NFL

There was one game, and the underdog won it. Seattle opened as a 4.5-point favorite. That is the spread: the favorite has to win by more than that number to "cover," and the underdog covers by winning or by losing by less. By kickoff, Seattle was down to -3. That change is a line move, and this one went 1.5 points toward Chicago. The Bears were the side it moved toward, and they covered with plenty to spare. A 17-point win plus 3 points from the spread meant they covered by 20.

The total was less accurate. The total is the market's number for combined points, and bettors pick whether the final score goes over or under it. It opened at 47.5 and dropped to 46.5. The teams scored 51 together, so it went over by 4.5, the opposite way from the line move. Home teams went 0-1 against the spread, and favorites went 0-1 both ways.

NBA

Favorites went 10-5 straight up on a 15-game slate, but only 8-7 against the spread. The biggest upset was Sacramento winning 115-100 at Dallas. The Kings were +241, a 28.2% chance at the close. Before tipoff, the line had moved 2 points their way, from Dallas -9.5 to -7.5, and Sacramento still covered by 22.5.

New Orleans beat Memphis 135-134 as a +178 underdog (34.5%). The spread had moved a point toward the Pelicans, and the move was right. The other three underdog winners were all close to coin flips. Oklahoma City (+146, 39.1%) won 117-112 at Cleveland, and Portland (+146, 39.0%) won 118-110 at Denver. Washington (+130, 41.8%) beat Orlando 103-94 even though the line had moved a point toward the Magic.

Detroit had the biggest cover of the night. The Pistons were 5.5-point favorites at the close and won 124-91, covering by 27.5. The Lakers beat Miami 138-117 as 1.5-point favorites, covering by 19.5.

The biggest miss for a favorite was Atlanta. The Hawks' spread moved 3 points their way, from 7.5 to 10.5, the largest NBA spread move of the day. They won 108-104, so Indiana covered by 6.5. The Knicks beat Brooklyn by 13 as 14.5-point favorites, so the Nets covered by 1.5.

Three games were decided by half a point against the spread. Minnesota won by 12 as an 11.5-point favorite. Toronto won by 7 at +6.5 terms. Golden State won by 3 after its line moved from -4.5 to -2.5 toward Phoenix. At the opening number, the Warriors would have fallen short.

Unders went 10-5 on the night. Washington-Orlando finished 27.5 under its 224.5 total, Brooklyn-New York 25.5 under, and Milwaukee-Minnesota 21.5 under. Atlanta-Indiana's total fell 8 points before tipoff, from 234.5 to 226.5, and the game still went 14.5 under. The biggest miss of the day went the other way. New Orleans and Memphis combined for 269 points against a closing total of 231.5, 37.5 over. That total had come down 4 points before the game. Toronto-LA Clippers also went 22.5 over.

Line moves were a mixed bag. When the spread moved, the side it moved toward went 6-5. When the total moved, the direction was right 7-4.

NHL

Underdogs won three of the four games. In hockey, the puck line works like a spread and is usually set at 1.5 goals. Favorites went 1-3 against it. Detroit was the biggest upset, winning 5-3 at Florida as a +154 underdog (37.8%). Boston was a slight home underdog at -102 (48.3%) and beat Vegas 3-2. Calgary (+105, 46.8%) won 2-1 at San Jose, which went 3.5 under the 6.5 total.

Colorado was the only favorite to win. The Avalanche beat Chicago 5-2 and covered the 1.5-goal puck line by 1.5. That game's total rose from 5.5 to 6.5 and finished at 7, so the night's only total move was right. Overs and unders split 2-2.

The long shots

No single result was a big shock. Sacramento's 28.2% was the lowest chance of any winner on the board. The surprise came from how many underdogs won.

The closing lines gave all five NBA underdog winners about a 1 in 161 chance of winning together. As a hypothetical parlay, just to show the scale, that would have paid +13,095. A parlay is one bet that combines several results and only pays if all of them hit. Picking every winner of all 15 NBA games was about a 1 in 4,990 chance.

The hockey numbers were smaller. The three NHL underdogs together were about a 1 in 12 chance, a hypothetical +931. Picking all four NHL winners was about 1 in 17, worth +1,380 as one ticket.

By the numbers

Underdogs won 9 of the 20 games across the NFL, NBA and NHL.

NBA totals went under 10 times and over 5 times.

Pelicans-Grizzlies went 37.5 points over its total, the biggest miss of the day.

Three NBA games were decided by exactly half a point against the spread.

The Bears covered by 20 after their line moved 1.5 points toward them.
