NHL and College football results for Saturday, October 24, 2026: the day in numbers
Cincinnati beat Texas Tech, and that topped Saturday's 12-game college football slate. CIN won 37-24 and ended TTU's 6-game winning streak, giving the Red Raiders their first loss of the season. Miami stayed perfect, and Rice and FAU combined for 100 points. The one NHL game also ended a streak: Anaheim stopped a 5-game losing run in Philadelphia.
College Football
TTU came in with the better record and left 6-1 after the 37-24 loss at CIN. The Bearcats are now 5-2 and won for the first time after a loss. WCPO said the win was "the shock of the college football world" and noted it came on Cincinnati's homecoming day. The 61 combined points were 7.6 more than this season's average of 53.4 per game.
Kansas pulled the day's other upset by records, beating Baylor 25-24. KU is now 3-4 and snapped a skid with the win. BAY dropped to 4-3 and has lost two straight.
Miami was the most dominant team on the board again. MIA beat PITT 52-23, a 29-point margin, and is now 7-0 with seven straight wins. Pitt has lost three in a row and fell to 5-3. The 75 combined points were 21.6 more than the season average.
SMU had the biggest margin of the day, beating CAL 59-20. That's 39 points. The Mustangs are 6-1 with four straight wins. Cal is 3-5 and has lost two in a row. Northwestern also has four wins in a row after beating RUTG 42-14. NU is 6-1, and Rutgers fell to 2-5.
FAU beat Rice 51-49, and the 100 combined points were the day's standout number. That's 46.6 more than the season average, almost twice a normal game. The Associated Press built its story around how many long touchdowns the two teams scored. The two-point loss was Rice's seventh in a row and leaves the Owls 1-7. FAU is 5-2.
Indiana and Michigan went the other way. IU won 13-6, and the 19 combined points were 34.4 below the season average and the fewest of the day by a wide margin. The Hoosiers are 7-1. MICH dropped to 4-3.
LSU won 38-17 at AUB for a second straight win and is 6-2. Auburn fell to 4-3. WVU beat TCU 24-20 for its second win in a row, moving to 5-3, while TCU is 3-4. That 44-point game was the second-lowest total of the day.
The MAC games were high-scoring and close. TOL beat WMU 45-38 for 83 combined points, 29.6 above the season average. The loss ended WMU's 3-game winning streak, and both teams sit at 5-3 and 6-2 respectively. Miami (OH) beat CMU 28-27, one of two one-point games on the day. M-OH has won three straight and is 5-3. CMU has lost three straight and is 3-5. KENT beat Akron 35-20 to end a 3-game losing streak and is 3-5. AKR is 1-7 and has lost six in a row.
NHL
ANA won 5-4 at PHI and ended a 5-game losing streak. The Ducks are now 5-6-0. The Flyers' 3-game winning streak ended, and they are 3-7-3. The nine combined goals were 2.7 more than the league's season average of 6.3 per game.
Tristan Luneau had the biggest night compared with his normal output. He had a goal and two assists for three points. Before Saturday he was averaging 0 goals and 0.2 points per game, so this one game was worth about 15 games at his usual scoring rate. He did it on just two shots, compared with his 0.7-per-game average.
Matvei Michkov scored both of Philadelphia's highlighted goals and had three shots. Coming in, he averaged 0.5 goals, 0.7 points and 1.3 shots per game, so he scored four times his usual goals and took more than twice his usual shots. It still wasn't enough to keep PHI's streak alive.
